As I've mentioned, I'm borrowing from the practice of the past's Master Artists, by copying the work of those who came before me as a way to learn. To that end, two years ago, I started painting one human figure, in various Styles of Art History. So far I have completed: Cave Art, Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Greek, the Middle Ages (via the Bayeux Tapestry style), the style seen in Early Christian stained glass windows, and a post-Impressionistic van Gogh figure. I also have the styles of Byzantine mosaics, and Northern Renaissance paintings currently in progress.
While I am learning many things from this timeline project, and my skills are improving, I have been properly chastised by other artists for not getting on with discovering my own style.
Therefore, What's on My Easel now is a 12" by 36" canvas depicting six popped kernels of popcorn. It is my own still life composition, and I took the photo (and ate the popcorn!) myself, so no one else's style is involved to influence me. I'm halfway through the initial underpainting, but already liking it. :^) Stay tuned!
